MATHS
Kitchen Cupboard Conundrum 🥣➗

Get ready for a mathematical adventure right in your kitchen!

You'll need:

  • Various kitchen items (cans, jars, packets, etc.)

  • A measuring scale or measuring cups

  • A pen and paper

Instructions:

  • Choose several items from your kitchen cupboard.

  • Estimate the weight or volume of each item (e.g., "I think this can of beans weighs 500g" or "I think this jar of jam holds 300ml").

  • Use the measuring scale or measuring cups to find the actual weight or volume of each item.

  • Compare your estimates to the actual measurements. How close were you?

  • Record your findings on a piece of paper. Which items were the easiest to estimate? Which were the hardest?

Bonus Challenges:

  • Calculate the total weight or volume of all the items you measured.

  • Divide the items into groups based on their weight or volume (e.g., light, medium, heavy).

  • Create a graph or chart to display your results.

  • Research different units of measurement used for weight and volume. Can you convert between grams and ounces, or milliliters and pints?

This activity helps to develop estimation skills, understanding of measurement units, and practical math application. It's a fun and hands-on way to learn about math in a real-world context, and it's sure to spark some interesting conversations about food and nutrition as well!
