MATHS
Maths in the Garden! 🏡🧮
Let's step outside and discover the maths hidden in nature!
Your Mission:
Explore your garden or a local park.
Look for examples of different shapes in nature (leaves, flowers, trees, etc.).
Measure the dimensions of some of these shapes (e.g., the length and width of a leaf, the circumference of a tree trunk).
Estimate the number of petals on a flower, leaves on a branch, or stones in a path.
Look for patterns and symmetry in nature (e.g., the arrangement of petals on a flower, the branching of a tree).
Bonus Challenges:
Use your measurements to calculate the area or perimeter of some of the shapes you found.
Create a nature-inspired artwork using the shapes and patterns you observed.
Research the Fibonacci sequence and look for examples of it in nature.
Share your maths in the garden discoveries on social media using #EdExpress!
This activity encourages observation skills, measurement practice, and an appreciation for the mathematical beauty of the natural world.
IT
Coding Critters! 🐛💻
Let's unleash our creativity and bring some digital creatures to life!
Your Mission:
Choose a block-based coding platform like Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/) or Blockly.
Create a new project and choose a background for your creature's habitat.
Design your own unique creature using the drawing tools or pre-made sprites.
Use code blocks to make your creature move, interact with its environment, and maybe even make sounds!
Add other elements to your project, like food, obstacles, or friends for your creature.
Bonus Challenges:
Give your creature a name and personality.
Create a story or animation featuring your creature.
Share your coding creations on social media using #EdExpress and inspire others!
This activity fosters creativity, problem-solving skills, and introduces basic coding concepts. It's a fun and engaging way to learn about programming and express your imagination through technology!
