SCIENCE
Kitchen Chemistry: Dancing Milk! 🥛🌈🎨

Let's create a mesmerising display of colours and science right in your kitchen!

You'll Need:

  • A shallow dish or plate

  • Milk (whole milk works best)

  • Food colouring (various colours)

  • Dish soap

  • Cotton swabs

Instructions:

  1. Pour enough milk into the dish to cover the bottom.

  2. Add a few drops of different food colours to the milk, keeping them separate.

  3. Dip a cotton swab in dish soap and touch it to the centre of the milk.

  4. Watch the colours dance and swirl!

The Science Behind It:

  • Milk is mostly water, but it also contains fats and proteins.

  • Dish soap breaks down the surface tension of the milk and interacts with the fats, causing the colours to move and mix.

Bonus Challenges:

  • Experiment with different types of milk (skim, semi-skimmed, etc.) and see if the results vary.

  • Try using different liquids, like water or vinegar, instead of milk.

  • Add a drop of oil to the milk before adding the food colouring. Observe how the oil affects the movement of the colours.

  • Share your colourful creations on social media using #EdExpress!

This activity is a fun and engaging way to explore the science of surface tension and chemical reactions. Get ready for a mesmerizing display of colours and science!
