ENGLISH
Unravel the mysteries of British slang with our daily dose of quirky expressions!

Today's Phrase: "It's all gone pear-shaped!"

Meaning: Something has gone wrong or not according to plan.

Origin: This phrase likely originated from the Royal Air Force during World War II. When pilots performed a loop-the-loop, an imperfect manoeuvre could result in a pear-shaped trajectory, signifying a failure.

Example: "We were planning a picnic, but it all went pear-shaped when it started raining."

Your Mission:

  • Think of a time when something in your life went pear-shaped. Write a short story or paragraph describing the situation and how you dealt with it.

  • Get creative! Illustrate your pear-shaped moment with a drawing or comic strip.
